Terry Gray Wins
Cleveland USCS Sprint Car "Outlaw Invasion"
Current USCS points leader Terry Gray, put on a genuine clinic
on how to get around Joe Lee Johnson's historic Cleveland Speedway.
The "Bartlett Bullet" (of Bartlett TN) driving his familiar
stealth black # 10 "J&J Auto Racing / Wesmar" powered
mount, gave all the credit for his win of the "Tennessee
State Championship: Outlaw Invasion" race to his crew and
to "Probably, the best feature race setup I've ever had in
my life! Said Gray."
In victory lane, Gray told series announcer, "you could have
won in that car tonight it was so good! Michael and Red had that
car so fast that I just had a blast driving it.
It's probably a sin that I got to enjoy their hard work so much."
Gray chased pole position starter, Jeremy Scott from Franklin,
Georgia for the first seven laps of the double points event before
driving by and racing away to victory lane. Chris Rogers, from
Winston, Georgia, who won the first heat race in his Williams
Brothers Lumber / Engine Research powered / Clincher Chassis #
7, chased Gray home in second after starting in the fifth position.
Possibly the event's brightest spot was the performance of third
year USCS regular, Jeremy Scott, who piloted the family owned
# 76 Scott's Plumbing / J B Engines powered / Pro Lite Chassis
car, to finish just behind Gray in the third heat race. Scott
then lead laps one thru seven in the main event while battling
with Rogers and Mike McElya the balance of the race before coming
home for a career best third place finish ahead of McElya in the
# 58 Pyles Paving / J and J Auto Racing car. McElya who also hails
from Gray's home town of Bartlett. Two time 2001 USCS feature
winner, Steven Graham, a Sydney Australia native who lives part
of the year in Concord, North Carolina, drove home fifth in his
# 14 Richard Petty Driving Experience Maxim, after winning the
first heat race and was the last car on the lead lap as Gray's
checkered flag unfurled.
1999 USCS Champion, Marshall Skinner from West Memphis, Arkansas
finished sixth, East Bay Raceway 2000 Champion, Johnny Gilbertson,
from Largo, Florida was seventh, Corey Herring from Columbus,
Mississippi eighth, Brain Thomas from Auburn, Georgia ninth and
Pedro Bandito from Nogales, Mexico rounded out the top ten.
Gray started his $2300 clean sweep night off right when he reeled
in Rogers on lap 3 of the 6 lap Airflow
Research "Power Dash" and collected the $200 Goodson
Farms top prize. He later captured the third heat race and received
a $100 feature winner bonus posted by Goodson Farms.
The Huggins Cams "Hardcharger" award and a $100 Goodson
Farms "Hardcharger" bonus posted at the driver briefing
earlier in the evening went to Johnny Gilbertson, driving his
# 6 Goodson Farms sponsored Maxim, started fourteenth and passed
seven cars in the fast paced main event that went caution free.
Donn Goodson, President of Goodson Farms, was in attendance and
added an additional $500 to Gilbertson's "Hardcharger"
total for, "Putting on quite a show and passing so many cars
without the benefit of a caution flag. I just wanted Johnny to
know how much we appreciate his efforts and I was really proud
of how he represented Goodson Farms tonight," said Goodson.
