early laps of the 50 lap contest, Hommel had to hold off a late race charge by John Jones to take the hard fought win.
"This track has been real good to me and we enjoy racing here," grinned Hommel leaning on his Alert Oil and Gas, Lakeway Concrete, Pro Power Engines Warrior Monte Carlo entry in victory lane. "Duggan had a little softer tires on and I knew he would be fast at the start. When his tires started to go away we were able to take advantage and the lead."
"When you race at Cleveland you know that you are going to have to deal with John Jones. Toward the end I knew he was coming and I used a lot of race track to keep him behind me. It was a good race."
John Jones who started 13th in the 24-car field was on a mission using the whole race track to work his way to the front. Jones moved into fourth behind Hommel, Duggan and Jeff Walker just prior to the halfway point. As the four started to lap the slower cars the action heated up with positions being swapped with each turn. When the caution flew for an unrelated incident on lap 25 everyone took a breath relaxed and reloaded.
Back under green Jones passed Walker for third and found himself watching Duggan and Hommel battle for the lead. In the waning laps Jones was able to move past Duggan and mount a charge on Hommel, but ran out of laps. Walker, who never ran lower than fourth, shot past Duggan for third on the white flag lap. Rex Richey rounded out the first five.
Rounding out the top 10 were Bobby Mayse, Todd Morrow, Brandon Kinzer, Vic Hill, and DeWayne Smith.
Hommel, who was the fast qualifier with a time of 13.670, was almost unable to answer the opening bell. Just prior to lining up for the Fall Classic one of his crew discovered that after changing carburetor spacers the throttle was. With help for the folks at Stealth Carburetors, Hommel pulled on the race track and took his place next to Duggan on the front row as the field was ready to began it's pace laps.
Trenton Georgia's Steve Gilbert would lead every lap in the caution filled time shortened Claimer Late Model feature. Glenn Seaton IV was second and was followed across the line by Tim Gibson, Gene Douglas and Nick Yancy. Rounding out the top 10 were Kevin Cook, Brent Runyon, Randy Dillard, Arron Ridley and Scott Gardner.
In Hobby action Glenn Seaton Jr. out ran Shawn Reece, Jim Twiggs, Richard Dixon and Eddie Sons to take the win. Kenny Stanfield, Justin Mitchell, Travis Banther, Edward Yancy and Steve Hufford were the second five to cross the line.
Michael Luna had it his way as he recorded the win in the pony feature. Early leader Jimmy Brown could not keep Luna behind him or make a serious challenge to regain the lead. Brandon Scott was third, Jason Spraker was fourth and Scott Ledford fifth.
Cleveland Tennessee's Roy Nichols led every lap to take the Street win over Jeff King, Alex Nash, Chad Holcomb and Terry Graham.
